Capillary sorting of particles by dip coating

WebNov 2, 2024 · Capillary Sorting of Particles by Dip Coating Brian M. Dincau, Martin Z. Bazant, Emilie Dressaire, Alban Sauret In this letter, we describe the capillary sorting of particles by size based on dip coating. A substrate withdrawn from a liquid bath entrains a coating whose thickness depends on the withdrawal speed and the liquid properties. WebDip coating consists of withdrawing a substrate from a bath to coat it with a thin liquid layer. This process is well understood for homogeneous fluids, but heterogeneities, such as particles dispersed in liquid, lead to more complex situations.

WebScale bars are 500 µm. from publication: Capillary Sorting of Particles by Dip Coating In this letter, we describe the capillary sorting of particles by size based on dip coating. WebHigh-throughput sorting or filtration of suspensions is a critical step in many industrial, geophysical, and biomedical processes. Here, we present a new scalable size-based separation technique which utilizes a dip coating meniscus as a tunable filter. Thus, dip coating, in particular combined with evaporation, has been considered for optical applications, self-assembling of particles and wettability treatments (Ghosh, Fan & Stebe 2007;Mechiakhet al. 2010; Berteloot et al. 2013;Mahadiket al. 2013). More recently, several studies have considered the dip coating of monodisperse

WebJun 6, 1990 · 2.2. Dip coating In dip coating, the substrate is normally withdrawn vertically from the liquid bath at a speed Uo (Fig. l(a)). The moving substrate entrains the liquid in a fluid mechanical boundary layer that splits in two above the liquid bath surface, the outer layer returning to the bath 4 (see Fig. l(b)). WebDecember 2024: Our work on dip coating of suspensions has been accepted for publication in Soft Matter. In this paper, we report the existence of three regimes of dip coating in non-Brownian suspensions: pure liquid, heterogeneous coating and homogeneous suspension films. We provide the domain of existence of these different regimes.
