Ion pair effect
Web2 dec. 2024 · The environment enclosing an ionic species has a critical effect on its reactivity. In a more general sense, medium effects are not limited to the solvent, but involve the counter ion effect (ion pairing), formation of larger aggregates and structured environment as provided by the host in the case of host–guest complexes.

Web22 jul. 2013 · Our simulations suggest that a significant amount of cations and anions associate in the solutions due to the ion pairing effect. These ion assemblies as well as the free cations form suspending clusters together with the water molecules in their cation hydration shells. Web16 apr. 2013 · The chemistry community now recognizes the cation-π interaction as a major force for molecular recognition, joining the hydrophobic effect, the hydrogen bond, and the ion pair in determining macromolecular structure and drug-receptor interactions. WebThe effect of ion pairing becomes more pronounced when the solvent is changed from DMF (ε r = 36.7) to a solvent with a lower dielectric constant, like EtOH (ε r = 24.3) or THF (ε r = 7.5). As shown in Figure 3 b, the CVs of dcphOH-NDI in the three solvents using LiClO 4 as the supporting electrolyte differ significantly.
The inert-pair effect is the tendency of the two electrons in the outermost atomic s-orbital to remain unshared in compounds of post-transition metals. The term inert-pair effect is often used in relation to the increasing stability of oxidation states that are two less than the group valency for the heavier elements of groups 13, 14, 15 and 16. The term "inert pair" was first proposed by Nevil Sidgwick in 1927. The name suggests that the outermost s electron pairs are more tightly boun… Web16 sep. 2024 · We summarize the important points about ionic bonding: At r0, the ions are more stable (have a lower potential energy) than they are at an infinite internuclear distance. When oppositely charged ions are brought together from r = ∞ to r = r0, the energy of the system is lowered (energy is released).
